Perfect For Beginners

The instructors at Body Alive are highly trained experts who love working with new students. Our instructors are ready to get you going gently and safely and make sure you get a powerful workout. We believe that getting a proper introduction to your new workout is an essential step to your new, healthy lifestyle. This is why we offer special classes for beginners in Hot Power Yoga, and why our Barre Alive, Cycle Alive and Cardio Alive instructors are delighted to provide modifications for all levels.

Heat / Humidity

Our heated room is kept at 102º F temperature with 40% humidity and our unheated room is kept at 72º-76º F temperature with no humidity.  We encourage beginners to take as long as required to allow their bodies to acclimate. We all deal with the heat in different ways. If you feel tired, dizzy or short of breath, we encourage you to pace yourself and even lie down on your mat for a few poses. You’ll find that each time you return, you feel capable of doing more. Many students report that within a few classes, they’ve found a new edge they didn’t even know was there.

Modifications

In every class, our instructors will offer modifications and help students find what works for their experience level. Body Alive also holds workshops to help students work on their form.

What To Bring

Bring a mat, water, and comfortable clothes.  Shoes are only required for Cycle, Fusion and HIIT classes. Most classes do not require shoes but you may wear socks that have a non-slip sole if you prefer.

What To Expect

In our Yoga Alive  classes,  you’ll work through a series of moves designed to tone and lengthen your muscles and improve your balance and strength. You’ll push yourself and come out stronger, more fit, more flexible, and feeling great. In our Barre Alive classes, students will start with a warm-up of stretches, small hand weights, and movement of the body. They will do most of their workout at the barre preforming a variety of moves to tone the entire body. Our Cardio Alive classes will get right into it and get your heart rate moving. Instructors will utilize hand weights, resistance bands, and other props so you can challenge yourself to a complete body workout.

How should I prepare for my class?

Drink lots of water in the hours beforehand and make sure you don’t eat a big meal just before you come, as with any exercise practice.

Why is the room heated?

The heat and humidity allow the musculature to open more and sweating allows for a release of toxins from the body. Heat also increases the cardio component of a yoga practice.

I’m new to the hot room. What should I expect?

We promise, you’re going to love it! The key is in finding your pace. Our hot studio is kept at 102 degrees and 40 percent humidity, so for classes in our hot room, we encourage beginners to take as long as required to allow their bodies to acclimate. Many students report that within a few classes, they’ve found a new edge they didn’t even know was there. We all deal with the heat in different ways. If you feel tired or short of breath, we encourage you to pace yourself; move more slowly or lie down on your mat for a few exercises. You’ll find that each time you return you feel capable of doing more.

I’ve tried Barre and my legs shake. Is this normal?

Yes, this is normal.  Since most of the work is done at the barre, the movements are very small and controlled. This is called isometric contractions.  Shaking is your body’s way of saying, I am “feeling it”!  Try to embrace the shakes. It means you are working hard.

Can men come to your classes?

YES, men are welcome!  We tend to have more women in our classes at Body Alive but men do attend regularly.

Isn’t this going to be really hard?

We promise, you’re going to love it! The key is in finding your pace. The truth is, hot yoga practice is addictive. Once you experience the flow of your practice in our heated room, you may never go back.

Is Pilates different than Yoga?

Pilates and Yoga are two very different methods of movement. Our Hot Power Yoga class is designed to increase your stamina, strength, flexibility, as well as stress reduction. Our Hot Mat Pilates program will also improve your strength, stamina and flexibility but we will put an extreme focus on your core muscles during class. Building strength in your core will train all muscle groups to move effectively and improve performance in high impact workouts.

Who can take a Cycle class?

Must be 16 years or older to participate in Cycle. Ages 13 and up must have a parent or guardian present.

What is your cancellation policy?

Body Alive requires you to cancel at least 6 hours prior to class. If you do not cancel during this time frame or if you are absent from class, you will be charged a $10.00 fee. Cycle classes are subject to a 12-hour cancellation policy. If a student cancels their reservation after the 12-hour cutoff for Cycle, the class will be deducted from their account.
